Former Chief Justice James Zazzali Selected to Chair Governor Murphy's Judicial Nominations Panel

Former Chief Justice James R. Zazzali, Esq., Of Counsel to the Firm, has been selected by Gov. Murphy to Chair a panel on judicial nominations. Gov. Murphy created a seven-member advisory panel to advise him on future judicial nominations. He did so pursuant to his execution - along with the State Bar - of the Hughes Compact, under which governors have historically agreed to hold off on nominations of judges, justices and prosecutors until the panel deems them qualified. Gov. Christie implemented a revised version of the Hughes Compact, but Gov. Murphy has rejected that revised version and has also focused on the panel's makeup by increasing geographic, racial, and ethnic diversity. The seven-member panel includes five retired Supreme Court justices, including former Chief Justice Zazzali.
