Mr. Zazzali is a founding partner of the firm, and generally acknowledged to be one of the outstanding lawyers in the state during his 30 years of practice. In 2001, he was appointed by Governor Whitman to serve as an Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court, and in 2006 was appointed Chief Justice by Governor Corzine. He has now returned to the firm as Of Counsel.
During his tenure on the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Zazzali wrote more than 100 opinions. During his long legal career, Justice Zazzali has served as New Jersey Attorney General; General Counsel for the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority; Chairman of the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation; and Chief of the Appeals Division of the Office of the Essex County Prosecutor. He was appointed Special Master investigating and assisting in the reform of the Monmouth, Essex, Bergen and Newark, New Jersey jails.
His professional activities include the Chair of Congressional Superfund Study Group (1981-1982) appointed by the Congress to recommend toxic tort reform; Chair of the Judicial Labor Relations Task Force (1985-1988); and Chair of the Committee on Minority Participation in the Courts (1985-1992). He held membership and was Vice Chair in the Disciplinary Review Board (1984-1999) and a member of the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct (1999-2000) on which he currently serves as Vice-Chair. Justice Zazzali was also an Adjunct Professor of Seton Hall Law School (1984-2000) teaching mediation and arbitration.
